Esteve Espuña analyzes the challenges of innovation in traditional sectors such as food at the Cafè del Packaging

Txell Tomàs Sallarès,

On April 23, Packaging Cluster celebrated a new edition of the #CAFÈdelpackaging at Hotel Qgat, an initiative that promotes networking and the exchange of knowledge between professionals in the industrial field.

The session revolved around the conversation "From what we are to what we can be: innovation in traditional sectors", with the participation of Esteve Espuña, CEO of Espuña and president of INNOVACC, Catalan alternative meat and protein cluster, in dialogue with Martina Font, president of the Packaging Cluster. The meeting focused on how companies with a long history can face transformation processes in increasingly demanding and changing environments.

Innovation and adaptation in the food sector

During the session, key aspects such as internationalization, the evolution of business models and adaptation to new consumer trends were addressed. We have also reflected on the challenges associated with consolidation in international markets, as well as the complexity of building community and positioning outside the local environment.

In relation to the product, the exploration of new categories such as alternative proteins has been highlighted, as well as the current challenges to achieve an optimal balance between quality, cost and consumer acceptance.

The strategic role of packaging

Packaging has been one of the central axes of the debate, highlighting its role as a key element in the value proposition. The evolution towards more sustainable and functional solutions has been underlined, as well as the need to adapt to the demands of the market and large distributors.

Among the highlighted trends, resealable formats and the reduction of environmental impact have been identified as priority lines of innovation. In this sense, sustainability is consolidated as a structural requirement rather than as a differentiating element.

Digitization and talent challenges

The conference also addressed the incorporation of digital technologies in industrial processes, with applications such as artificial vision for quality control or automated operational support systems.

At the same time, one of the main challenges of the sector has been highlighted: the ability of equipment to adapt to the pace of technological change. The need for continuous training and talent development is positioned as a key factor to ensure business competitiveness.

Commitment to the ecosystem

From the cluster we thank the participation of Esteve Espuña, for sharing his experience and reflections on innovation and for providing a practical and strategic vision of great value to all the attendees. Many thanks to all the attendees who participated in the day, whose contributions have contributed to enriching the debate.

The event was supported by Caixa d'Enginyers, which has reaffirmed its commitment to a financial model based on sustainability, proximity and support to the business fabric.

With initiatives such as the #CAFÈdelpackaging, the Packaging Cluster continues to promote spaces for reflection and collaboration to respond to the challenges of the sector and encourage innovation and competitiveness.
